Rahal tops Long Beach warmup

Graham Rahal topped Josef Newgarden in the half-hour warmup session ahead of this afternoon's Acura GP of Long Beach.

Rahal, who will start 16th in the race, put in a lap of 1m08.0151s in his No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda. That was 0.33s clear of Team Penske's Josef Newgarden, who also will have a lot of work to do from a starting spot of 15th in his No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet.

Marcus Armstrong, who will roll off seventh in his Meyer Shank Racing Honda, was third in the session, another 0.13s back.

The green alternate tires are the predominant starting choice, with just six of the 27 entries -- and none of the top 11 -- opting to start the race on Firestone's primary compound.
