NASCAR 75 and Le Mans Centenary celebrations on tap for Silverstone Festival Aug. 25-27
Among the many celebrations for this year's Silverstone Festival (previously known as The Classic) are special grids and displays honoring 75 years of NASCAR, 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary, and Silverstone's own 75th anniversary.
Days of Thunder
The lineup of fearsome V8-powered cars will include more than a dozen 200+mph stock cars, all in iconic liveries and all with genuine NASCAR racing heritage between 1990 and 2015. When they’re not on track, they’ll be on display in the International Paddock.
One of the entrants, the bright blue ex-Clint Bowyer #15 2014 Toyota Camry, is owned by Andrew Jordan, a former British touring car champion.
“I really bought the car to do the Classic 24 Hour race at Daytona in November, so having the chance to demo it at Silverstone in the summer is a big bonus,” said the 2013 BTCC champ.
“It’s going to be very different and very cool to have a group of them on track at the Festival. Being so fast, so noisy and totally unlike anything else on show, they are certain to get lots of attention.”
Masters Endurance Legends
Encompassing both prototype and GT sports cars from 1995 to 2016, the two Masters Historic Legends grids are the fastest and among the most modern on the Festival bill. Adding to the excitement, this year’s line-up will be the biggest yet with no fewer than 37 stunning cars already confirmed for the two spectacular Silverstone showdowns over the Bank Holiday weekend.
This summer’s Silverstone Festival is also celebrating Silverstone’s own 75th anniversary, so the packed on-track program features special showdowns and parades showcasing the venue’s remarkable history. Honoring the significant milestone, the weekend hosts 20 epic retro races reviving all the great eras of Formula 1 and touring cars, as well as sports cars and GTs.
