Expansive New Exhibition at the IMS Museum Celebrates Month-of-May-at-Indy Traditions

The all-encompassing ‘Traditions' exhibition opened this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. It is a truly wide-ranging celebration of the many many iconic month-of-May traditions at IMS and its flagship Indianapolis 500.

The first of five all-new exhibitions planned for 2022, ‘Traditions’ explores everything in the Indy 500 universe, from tailgating and concerts to "The Command” and “Back Home Again in Indiana”. Guests can relive their favorite rituals and customs by exploring photography pieces, video displays, music, and memorabilia on display.

“I believe ‘Traditions' will be one of the most popular exhibitions ever produced by the IMS Museum because it is about our fans,” said Joe Hale, Museum president. “Everyone has their own and favorite Indianapolis 500 race day traditions, and we hope to showcase and celebrate them all, from the 6:00 a.m. cannon blast signaling the opening of the track to the celebratory drinking of the milk. We are honoring the traditions [on which] the Indianapolis 500 is built.”

In addition to the many display pieces, guests can take advantage of the two photo opportunities with a tailgating and Snake Pit backdrop. A playlist featuring music from the many different bands that have performed at the track can be heard throughout the exhibition.

‘Traditions’ will be open to the general public during museum hours through June 30, 2023. For more information, click
