Mercedes-Benz Showcasing Illustrious Race Cars at Pebble Beach

Next weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Mercedes-Benz will continue its "125 Years of Motorsport" celebration by showcasing some of the race cars that have shaped their history in motorsport. Perhaps the highlight will be this reconstructed 1932 Mercedes-Benz SSKL.

On 22 May 1932, Manfred von Brauchitsch won the Avus race decisively in Berlin in the aerodynamically optimised Mercedes-Benz SSKL. In doing so, he set a class world record with an average speed of 194,4 km/h over a distance of 200 kilometres.

The car is said to be the 'missing link' that connects the era of the compressor racing sports cars of the 1920s and the legendary Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows of the 1930s.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz will display a 3-litre W 154 Formula racing car from 1939, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR racing sports car (W 196 S) from 1955, a Sauber-Mercedes C 9 Group-C racing sports car from 1989 and the Penske-Mercedes PC-23 IndyCar from 1994.
