Daniel Suarez was fastest in the second practice session ahead of this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600.
The Stewart-Haas Racing driver topped the 50-minute session with a lap of 182.143 mph (29.647 seconds). Former teammate and defending race winner Kyle Busch followed Suarez at 182.051mph as Busch leapt up the leaderboard late in the session.
Third-fastest was 2017 Charlotte winner Austin Dillon at 181.488mph. Completing the top five was Ryan Blaney at 181.397mph and Kevin Harvick at 181.366mph.
Rounding out the top 10 on the speed chart was Denny Hamlin (181.330mph), Clint Bowyer (181.190mph), Martin Truex Jr. (181.147mph), Daniel Hemric (181.123mph), and Erik Jones (181.087mph).
Ryan Newman caught the wall as practice concluded, causing what appeared to be heavy damage to the right side of his Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang. Newman was 21st-fastest at 179.964-mph.
Austin Dillon led the way in the best 10 consecutive lap averages. He was followed by Hamlin, Hemric, Jimmie Johnson, Harvick, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Suarez, Bowyer, and Brad Keselowski.
Hamlin ran 52 laps in practice which was the most of any driver.
