Kevin Harvick grabbed the unofficial pole for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway with a lap of 124.298 mph (21.722 seconds).
Qualifying results are official until inspection takes place Saturday afternoon.
“Really proud of everybody on the No. 4 team and everybody at Stewart-Haas Racing,” Harvick said of his third Richmond pole and the 27th of his career. “We did a great job today.
“I didn’t think it was a perfect lap from my standpoint, but I was able to get in the throttle on the exit of the corner and put down a decent lap. So, you just got to go faster than everybody else.”
Harvick will be joined on the front row by the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Erik Jones, who ran a lap of 124.081 mph. Chevrolet driver Kurt Busch was third-fastest at 123.870 mph.
Completing the top five were Joey Logano at 123.672 mph and Kyle Busch at 123.598 mph. Busch is looking for his third-straight Richmond win after sweeping the 2018 races at the facility. He is also the most recent winner in the NASCAR Cup Series following his victory last weekend in Bristol.
Filling out the top 10 were Martin Truex Jr. at 123.400 mph, Chase Elliott at 123.153 mph, Austin Dillon at 1222.962 mph, Daniel Suarez at 122.610 mph, and Jimmie Johnson at 122.166 mph.
Chris Buescher (122.139 mph) and Brad Keselowski (122.061 mph) were the other two drivers to advance to the final round of qualifying.
Further back in the field will be Kyle Larson at 14th, Denny Hamlin at 18th, and Clint Bowyer at 21st. Ryan Blaney and Ryan Newman failed to advance out of the first round of qualifying and were 29th and 31st respectively.
