Richard Childress Racing will field a third car as Tyler Reddick attempts to qualify for the Daytona 500.
Reddick will drive the No. 31 Chevrolet with his paint scheme and sponsor being announced next week. Without the security of a charter, he’ll have to make the field either through his qualifying time or Gander RV Duel race.
Should Reddick make the field, it would be his first run in the Daytona 500 as well as his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut.
RCR is not fielding the No. 31 on a full-time basis this season as Rookie of the Year candidate Daniel Hemric will drive the No. 8. The organization is again running two full-time cars in the Cup Series (with Hemric and Austin Dillon) while Reddick will be its only championship-eligible driver in the Xfinity Series.
