Laguna Seca set for February IndyCar test
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will play host to a private test arranged by Team Penske on February 8 that will include Andretti Autosport, Chip Ganassi Racing, Ed Carpenter Racing, and Dale Coyne Racing. Fans are invited to attend the test as IndyCars make their return ahead of the season finale set for Monterey over the September 20-22 weekend.
Despite being characterized by the circuit as an IndyCar ‘Spring Training’ event, that distinction is reserved for the Circuit of The Americas, which will hold its open test for all teams as planned a few days later on February 12-13.
With the strong turnout for the Monterey date, the four teams in attendance will partake in an informal western swing before sending their transporters from California to Texas.
Ignoring the Spring Training confusion, Penske’s Simon Pagenaud is looking forward to visiting one of his favorite tracks to prepare for the upcoming season.
“Laguna Seca is such a cool place and I’m really excited that the IndyCar Series is headed there in 2019,”he said. “With the test in February, we have a lot of work to do to get our car in the right place since it is a totally new place for our team, but it’s an exciting challenge we are ready for. I feel like I have a bit of an advantage over the competition having competed and won there in the American Le Mans Series.
“It’s such a fun California track and I know there’s a lot of buzz around that race as it will serve is the finale race next season. There’s just a lot to be looking forward to there and that all starts with our winter test.”
General admission tickets for the test and discounted test tickets for those who’ve already purchased tickets for the September race are available at the track’s website.
