Milner leads for Corvette in third VIR practice

The final practice session ahead of qualifying for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR featured Corvette at the top of the 18-car field. Following the lead of Antonio Garcia, who led Friday’s running in the sister Corvette C7.R, Tommy Milner ruled the opposition Saturday morning (1m41.205s) in his factory Corvette. BMW Team RLL’s Connor De Phillippi was nearly a quarter-second behind in second (+0.243s) with his M8 GTE.

Porsche GT Team’s Laurens Vanthoor (+.307s) and Patrick Pilet (+.390s) were close behind in their Porsche 911 RSRs.

The lone red flag during the one-hour session belonged to Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dirk Muller, who backed his Ford GT into the barriers at Turn 14.

A summer-long hot streak for the 3GT Lexus RC F team found Kyle Marcelli in a familiar place (1m43.905s) among the GT Daytona ranks. Riley Motorsports’ Jeroen Bleekemolen, in second (+0.237s), continues to look like a pre-race favorite in the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3, and Madison Snow, whose Paul Miller Racing spent a long day replacing the latest blown engine in its Lamborghini Huracan GT3, returned to action and was a close third (+0.238s).

Slightly cooler conditions and some cloud cover offered a change from Friday’s steamy conditions, and with the threat of rain in the region, the Virginian fans could be in store for some weather-related fun.
