Performance Tech withdraws from CTMP after second crash in a week
Two significant crashes in less than a week have forced the Performance Tech Motorsports team to withdraw from the Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
A heavy impact suffered during Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours Of The Glen with the No. 38 ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2 car by Joel Miller was followed by another hard hit Friday morning at CTMP by Kyle Masson exhausted the team’s spares and limited energy following the first rebuild.
With the No. 38 sidelined, Performance Tech will turn its attention to supporting the smaller prototypes it has entered in the Mazda Prototype Challenge support series at CTMP.
“We’ve got 200 hours of work on the car since Watkins Glen and I just can’t put the guys through that again,” said team owner Brent O’Neill. “They did a great job last weekend after The Glen so we’re just going to switch our focus to the MPC guys and work on some podiums there. We hate to see the weekend end like this but after such a hard hit it’s the right choice for everyone.”
Both drivers were unhurt in their respective incidents. The team has also opted to repair the ORECA once it returns to its base in Florida.
