Erik Jones was fastest in final Cup Series practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the Coca-Cola 600.
Putting 55 laps on the board, Jones ran a lap of 187.045mph to top Kyle Larson. Jones was the only driver to crack the 187mph mark as Larson’s best lap was 186.664mph.
Next came the Team Penske duo of Ryan Blaney at 186.104mph and Joey Logano at 186.047mph. Denny Hamlin completed the top five with a lap of 185.938mph.
The 50-minute session was the only track time drivers got on Saturday. Rain forced the cancellation of the morning session.
Rounding out the top 10 were Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Clint Bowyer (185.688mph) and Kurt Busch (185.663mph), Paul Menard (185.459mph), Kasey Kahne (185.141mph) and Jamie McMurray (185.071mph).
Pole-sitter Kyle Busch was 18th fastest in the session with a fast lap of 184.691mph.
Defending race winner Austin Dillon ran 184.420mph to put him 20th on the speed chart.
Parker Kligerman went for a spin off Turn 2 during the session but was able to get the No. 96 straight to avoid bringing out a caution.
Six drivers also lost practice time for having to serve penalties.
Kligerman, Kahne and Aric Almirola served 15-minute penalties for failing inspection twice. JJ Yeley served a total of 30 minutes – 15 for being late to inspection and another 15 minutes for failing inspection twice.
Kevin Harvick, who was 17th fastest in the session, also served a 30-minute penalty for failing inspection three times. Harvick will start from the rear Sunday afternoon in his quest for a third consecutive win, and he will do it without car chief Robert Smith after he was ejected following qualifying.
