Bertil Roos graduate among Euroformula Open leaders

Cameron Das learned the art of high-quality, European-style road racing from attending the Bertil Roos Racing School.

The talented teenager from Maryland continues to apply those lessons learned in the Euroformula Open series, which features one of the greatest collections of young driving talent in the world. After four races, Das ranks fifth in the series standings, three points behind third-place and just 10 points out of second place.

Das, the 2016 F4 U.S. champion and highest-ranking American in the series, recently completed Round 2 of the Euroformula Open at The Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, where he posted another pair of impressive performances.

Driving the No. 28 Dallara for the British-based Carlin Motorsport team, Das posted a 10th-place qualifying effort for race No. 1. He then used many of the skills such as ocular driving techniques and line correction that he learned behind the wheel of the Bertil Roos Racing School’s formula cars to finish sixth in the race.

Das improved on the performance in the second race, qualifying fifth and finishing third. Most impressive to those who witnessed it, Das performed the best under the most challenging conditions.

“While it was tough, I enjoyed the weekend at Paul Ricard,” Das said. “We had a variety of conditions in practice, but we were particularly good in the most treacherous ones. As always, I want to say a huge thanks to the team and to my sponsors who afforded me this opportunity and continue to support me.”

Through the first four races of the Euroformula Open Series, Das has a pair of top-three finishes and even collected a bonus point for turning the fastest lap of anyone at the season-opening race at Circuito de Estoril.

Das posted a lap of 1:34.89 at 158.7 km/h at the Portuguese facility where the great Niki Lauda wrapped up his third Formula 1 championship in 1984, and the same facility where the legendary Ayrton Senna won his first F1 race in 1985. It’s also the site where Formula One’s most accomplished champion, Michael Schumacher, scored his second-ever victory in 1995.

Round 3 of the Euroformula Open Series will be held Saturday, June 9 at the famed Spa circuit in Belgium.
