Cassill to leave Front Row team at season's end

Landon Cassill will not return to Front Row Motorsports next season, telling JeffGluck.com he was informed by the team Monday.

The reason why is not clear, said Cassill, other than to offer there will be "radical changes" for the organization in 2018. A spokesperson for Front Row confirmed the news to RACER and offered the same statement as reported on JeffGluck.com.

"We're thankful for the last two years having Landon as a teammate and an ambassador for our sponsors, and we'll keep working hard with him and the No. 34 team for the best possible results the remainder of the 2017 season."

The 28-year-old joined the Bob Jenkins team in 2016. He finished 29th in points last season and is 32nd in points going into this weekend's Alabama 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Cassill has 10 top-20 finishes with the team in 66 races. His season-best finish is a 16th-place finish effort in the Daytona 500.

"I'm kind of excited to see what doors open up for me," Cassill told JeffGluck.com. "I have a unique resume in this sport right now. I think my youth is what kind of helps stay plugged in on a social media side and off-track side, and then I just have a tremendous amount of experience in the Cup Series – maybe not having the limelight of a top-notch team, but I'd like to work myself into one of those scenarios where I can showcase what I've learned."

In 253 career starts, Cassill has one top five and one top-10 finish. He has been full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series since 2012.

Front Row currently fields the No. 34 Ford for Cassill and the No. 38 for David Ragan. Having fielded a full-time entry since 2009, the organization has been primarily a two-car team in recent years. However, there has been a third car run at the restrictor-plate tracks of Daytona and Talladega.

In February, Front Row acquired a third charter and expressed plans to expand to three full-time entries in 2018. There has been no word from the organization is that is still the plan. However, earlier this year, general manager Jerry Froze told RACER options were still being weighed about what direction the team takes next season.
