My target is to get F1 role - Kubica

Robert Kubica admits his target is to get a role in Formula 1 off the back of his impressive testing return for Renault at the Hungaroring this week.

Driving a current F1 car for the first time in more than six years due to injuries sustained in a rally accident, Kubica posted the fourth-fastest time on Wednesday and completed more than 140 laps on a hot day in Budapest. While he said he was "not 100 percent happy" at the end of running, he revealed his goal is definitely to return to a position in F1, but he is unsure if he will get the opportunity.

"Well nothing is impossible," Kubica said. "Of course I have been the last six years through different periods and stages of my life mainly dedicated to my physical issues and injuries, then of course there was a lot going on in my head, which is normal I think, so my approach was very simple: Anything can happen.

"If we see where I was four months ago compared to where I am now it is a big change and it happened very quickly. I think if in three months I improved a lot and moved forward quite a lot, everything can happen in the future but we have to be realistic, nothing will be easy.

"For sure, my target is to get a kind of role in F1 if I can and if I will have a chance but I don't know. One thing is sure, if it doesn't happen, I will not be disappointed because I am looking at this chance, this situation, very realistically.

"I appreciate Renault and what they did. I think when we met for the first time I don't think anybody was thinking to let me drive in the Hungaroring official day but it happened. It shows the last two and a half months were quite important, not only for myself, but from this to move forward."

And Kubica says he needs time to reflect on how the test, went but he is convinced he will improve quickly with more time in the car, having left margin for error during the test.

"There is a lot to go, but it is far, far ahead so I would like to enjoy the moment and to have a think about what has happened [in Budapest] because a lot of things happened whilst I was driving. If I get the chance to jump again in the car I will find it much easier, more familiar and it will come more naturally.

"For a driver the best feeling you can have is everything comes so easily you don't think about it. But when everything is new you have to think about it and concentrate on things, keep analyzing why you are driving. I am honest, the last thing I wanted to do [on Wednesday] was to go off or crash the car. Nobody would like to do it but knowing that I think the afternoon was very productive not only from a driver point of view, but teamwork."
