Ganassi penalized for Road America infractions
Chip Ganassi Racing has two separate fines to pay and a penalty that will be served at the next round in Iowa for infractions stemming from race day at Road America.
Kohler Grand Prix winner Scott Dixon's No. 9 entry received the harshest judgement by the Verizon IndyCar Series for actions during the Sunday morning warmup. Plagued with fuel pressure problems, the championship leader's team attempted to replicate the intermittent fuel cuts that made the New Zealander's engine run poorly by pushing Dixon most of the way to pit lane before he drove through the entrance and stopped in his box, which is prohibited per Rule 7.9.1. Once there, the No. 9 was sent out onto the track 56 seconds after the checkered flag waved to end the session, which violated Rule 7.2.9.1.
The No. 9 entry was also tagged for failing to follow the directions of the series, which violated Rule 9.3.1.7. For the three transgressions, the No. 9 team has been assessed a $20,000 fine and Dixon will be forced to park his car during the final 20 minutes of opening practice at Iowa.
Charlie Kimball's No. 83 CGR Honda, which finished a strong sixth at Road America, failed the minimum height measurement at four positions on the car's underwing during post-race technical inspections. Three measurement locations on the right side of the underwing and one on the left were found to be below the minimum heights specified in Rule 14.7.6.5, and as a result, IndyCar assessed a fine of $10,000 to the team: $2500 for each failure.
