IMS partners with Indiana Donor Network

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will partner the Indiana Donor Network on a year-long campaign to raise awareness for organ donation through the

Driven2SaveLives

program. The promotional effort will span all events at IMS, beginning this weekend for the Grand Prix of Indy through the 2018 Indy 500.

"This partnership between IMS and the Indiana Donor Network is very important to all of us," said Hulman & Company President and CEO Mark Miles. "We see this as a great opportunity to reach fans who visit the Racing Capital of the World throughout the year, informing them about the need for registered donors across Indiana and the United States. It's extremely easy for anyone to take part in this process and save lives."

IDN and its Driven2SaveLives campaign was first introduced to the Speedway in 2016 as the primary sponsor for Stefan Wilson's No. 25 Indy 500 entry (pictured above), which came after the organization learned of the multiple organ donations made by his late brother Justin Wilson, who died following a crash at the Pocono IndyCar event in 2015.

The new and unique collaboration between Wilson's sponsors and IMS comes as a result of the assistance he provided to the series by stepping out of his IDN-sponsored Indy 500 seat to allow Formula 1 star Fernando Alonso to race. To incentivize the maneuver for IDN and keep the organization engaged for Wilson's deferred 2018 Indy 500 seat with Andretti Autosport, a 12-month elevation of the Driven2SaveLives program was crafted by IMS.

"Driven2SaveLives has worked tirelessly to promote donation and transplantation within motorsports since it was formed after the tragic passing of Justin Wilson," said IMS President Doug Boles. "The need for donors was magnified even further after we lost Bryan Clauson last summer. Both Justin and Bryan were incredible people who always connected with fans and selflessly gave of themselves as donors, and we hope fans will honor their memory and join drivers from so many series by supporting this vital campaign and registering as a donor."

"The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the biggest name in motorsports, and we are incredibly grateful to have their support as we honor donation heroes like Justin Wilson and Bryan Clauson and encourage more people to take part in those legacies by registering their own donation decisions," said IDN CEO Kellie Hanner.

IDN and Driven2SaveLives promotions will be placed throughout IMS to go with dedicated social media campaigns, and a special tribute to Clauson is also in the works for Lap 100 of the Indy 500 on May 28.
