JCR Motorsports announces it is expanding to a two-car effort for 2017 as it is set to return to the Pirelli World Challenge Series starting this weekend.
Driver and team owner Jeff Courtney will be driving one of two Maserati GT4s in the GTS class and is being joined this year by teammate Fred Roberts in the other car. Courtney will be in the No. 99 Kenda Tire / RecStuff.com Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 while Roberts will be driving the No. 89 RPM Canada/Enercare MC GT4.
Courtney will be making the team’s first start of the season this weekend at the Grand Prix of VIR, April 28-30 at Virginia International Raceway. Roberts will be behind the wheel starting with the next race at his home track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park outside of Toronto.
“I’m really happy to have Fred on our team this year,” said Courtney, who previously fielded a one-car team with himself as the lone driver. “I look forward to the advantages of having a two-car effort. With two cars, there’s data sharing, quicker feedback to make changes and the all-around environment of having a teammate, plus you’re pushing each other to be better.”
Long-time sponsor Kenda Tires is back with JCR Motorsports, along with RecStuff.com, the authority in trailer parts.
“Kenda Tires has been a long-time sponsor of our team and I am super appreciative of the continued support the company is providing us in 2017,” Courtney said. “I also am thrilled to have RecStuff.com back as a great sponsor of our team.”
Roberts brings sponsorship from RPM Canada and Enercare, which provides worry-free home services and smart energy solutions.
Courtney is coming off a year in which he had a best finish of second at Road America, two Top 5s and nine Top 10 World Challenge finishes last season.
“This weekend’s race at VIR is a great event to start our 2017 season,” Courtney said. I”ll be able to get a good feel for the car and relay that information to Fred when he joins us in Canada. I know the competition is outstanding and the entire team is looking forward to this race and this season.”
“I am proud of how much work, effort and time our team has put into these cars this year, including spending time on the shaker rig, which has really helped us dial in our suspension. We are pretty excited and confident we have the right package this year.”
