Lynn set for full WEC LMP2 season with G Drive

British racing driver Alex Lynn has secured a full-season FIA WEC LMP2 seat with G-Drive Racing. For the campaign, he will share the team's ORECA 07 Gibson with former WEC LMP2 champion Roman Rusinov and Pierre Thiriet.

Lynn, who is set to drive in the Sebring 12 Hours this weekend with Wayne Taylor Racing, told RACER that securing a full-season WEC drive was a high priority to go alongside his IMSA commitments.

"Getting a full-season drive in the WEC was really important for me," said Lynn (pictured) "It's crucial for me to get the experience of going to Le Mans, so to be with a race-winning outfit means it has worked out perfectly."

Prior to signing with the team, Lynn tested with it at Spanish circuit Aragon during a Dunlop tire test to get a feel for the car and to get to know the team before the season.

"It was easy to gel with the them," he continued. "What I like is the engineering team is headed up by David Leach, who has worked with the ORECA development car. Last year I met him and we have maintained a good relationship. I also know Roman from my three races with Manor, and he took notice of my performance.

"Going into the season I believe that Roman (Rusinov) had a short list of many drivers, some who were bigger names than me, with more visible experience, but from my side he could see I was hungry to get the drive. I want to win races, and I've ended up with a fantastic team in a fantastic car with great drivers alongside me.

"It's great to have scored a full WEC campaign."

As well as driving in IMSA and the WEC, Lynn will also drive for BMW in the Nurburgring 24 Hours and in the Formula E championship as DS Virgin Racing's third driver.

The first round of the 2017 WEC season is set to be held at its traditional venue, Silverstone, following the Official WEC Prologue test at Monza on April 1-2.
