One of the latest additions to the Ferrari Driver Academy, Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi will be entering the Italian Formula 4 Championship with the Prema team in 2017. The 15-year-old racer, who is the grandson of 2-time Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, will be at his first full-time season in single-seaters.
After enjoying a successful career in American karting competition, Fittipaldi took part in the Mexican Formula 4 round held jointly with Formula 1 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. He also entered in a few rounds of the 2016 Ginetta Junior Championship in the UK.
Alongside Marcus Armstrong, Fittipaldi was selected at the end of a stage held in Maranello featuring simulator, physical and on-track training.
“The Prema driver roster continues to grow stronger and Fittipaldi is definitely a valuable asset in our Formula 4 package,” said team principal Angelo Rosin. “Enzo is only 15 years old and has relatively little experience in single seaters, but we are sure that, with the help of our staff and of the Ferrari Driver Academy, he will step up very quickly, leaving a strong impression on-track.”
Fittipaldi added: “I am very happy and honored to be racing with Prema and to be part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Being a rookie this year I know I will have a lot to learn, but nonetheless I am really motivated and looking forward to the start of the season.”
