Keanu Reeves set for 'Rally Car' movie

Keanu Reeves is going NASCAR.

The actor, pictured above with motorcycle ace John McGuinness at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last June, is set to portray a fictional self-centered NASCAR driver in the upcoming film, "Rally Car." Announced at the Berlin Movie Festival, Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the movie.

The character Reeves will portray will be the only tie to NASCAR, however. The Hollywood Reporter says the premise of the film sees Reeves' character looking to revitalize his career by entering an international rally car race across China, learning how to win as part of a team when he joins forces with a young Chinese woman who wants to become a driver.

The film is scheduled to shoot in both China and the U.S.

While "Rally Car" will have a limited focus on NASCAR, the October release of the movie "Lucky Logan" should please die-hard stock car fans. The film centers on two brothers looking to pull off a heist during a race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with parts of the movie having been shot at the speedway last fall.

Fans can see Reeves in his newest movie "John Wick: Chapter 2," which hits theaters this weekend.
