LIGHTS: Jamin to drive for Andretti in 2017

Nico Jamin will join Andretti Autosport's Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires line-up for the 2017 season.

Jamin will take over the 27 car, which was driven last season by Dean Stoneman. Dalton Kellett

signed an extension

in September to remain with the team for a third season.

The 20-year-old from Rouen, France finished the 2016 Pro Mazda Championship season with two wins – a Mid-Ohio weekend sweep – six podiums and one pole, earning him third in the drivers' championship for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. This followed a dominant 2015 that saw him win the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship by earning 10 victories, 12 poles and 15 podium finishes.

"I am delighted to announce that I will be driving in Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires for Andretti Autosport in 2017," Jamin said. "I remember my first USF2000 race back in 2014, walking by Mario Andretti in the paddock and I asked him to take a picture with me. That day, I was far to think that I was going to drive for a team owned by his son, Michael, a few years later. This is a dream come true and I thank everyone who made it possible - my family, partners, the whole Andretti team and fellow Frenchman, J-F Thormann."

Jamin tested for Andretti Autosport at the Chris Griffiths Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in early October and ended the weekend second fastest overall.

"We have had extremely positive test days already and I am very much looking forward to seeing the first green flag of the season wave at St. Petersburg," said Jamin, a native of Rouen, France.

After beginning his career in karts, Jamin progressed through several junior formula in Europe before coming to the United States in 2014. He finished ninth in the championship in his first season of USF2000.

Stoneman, who had two wins and seven podiums in his first Indy Lights campaign, is hopeful for a chance in IndyCar but told RACER

earlier this month

he would also consider a move to sports cars.
