
SCCA mourns passing of Area 4 director Steve Harris
The Sports Car Club of America is shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Steve Harris, serving the Board of Directors as the Area 4 representative, on Thursday evening. Harris, of Dayton, Ohio, was a long-time steward, a Club Racing competitor, and Club member. He was 65.
From John Walsh, Chairman of the SCCA Board of Directors:
"I can safely speak for all of the Board when I say we are shocked, and saddened, today. This is a tremendous loss for the Board and the Club. Steve was the workhorse of our Board, and happily took on every challenge presented to him. His energy and enthusiasm. especially in his leadership with our subsidiaries - SCCA Enterprises and SCCA Pro Racing - will be missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and co-workers."
Harris was born in Brooklyn but moved to Dayton as a child. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Bowling Green, where he met his wife Deborah, whom he married in 1974. He was the owner and president of Rixan Associates Inc., an industrial robotics company tha has been operating in the Dayton area since 1959.
He is survived by Deborah, daughter Amanda, son Alexander, his mother Bea Harris and sister Joan Steinberg.
