BATHURST 12: Glock and Wittmann to race at Bathurst

Ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock and DTM champion Marco Wittmann will make their debut in the Bathurst 12 Hour with BMW next year, alongside reigning Australian Supercars champion Mark Winterbottom.

The trio will share factory-backed BMW M6 GT3 with Steven Richards, whose team is running Bathurst 1000 winners Mark Skaife, Russell Ingall and Tony Longhurst in its other car in the February 5 race.

Glock raced in F1's Australian Grand Prix before joining the DTM in 2013, and contested last year's Spa 24 Hours with BMW, in its project with Alex Zanardi.

"It is fantastic to be back racing in Australia after a few years away," he said. "I have not driven at Bathurst before, but the circuit is legendary.

"I am really looking forward to the challenge and my first race in the BMW M6 GT3."

Wittmann sealed his second DTM title in three years at Hockenheim last month, beating Edoardo Mortara by four points, and has also made GT starts with BMW.

"At the moment, I only know the circuit from computer games," he said of Bathurst. "It is iconic, and it's sure to be a lot of fun to drive. I can hardly wait to do my first laps there in the BMW M6 GT3.

"I already know the car very well from my GT outings at the Nurburgring and in Daytona, and hope that I can use my experience to help the team."

Winterbottom and Richards won the Bathurst 1000 together in 2013, with what was then known as Ford Performance Racing.

The race will, though, be Winterbottom's 12 Hour debut, and his first event in GT machinery.
