INDUSTRY: ISC reportedly approves PIR modernization plan
Directors of International Speedway Corporations – the parent company of Phoenix International Raceway – approved plans during a recent meeting to modernize the facility, two sources with knowledge of the situation told the Arizona Republic.
The project, which is believed to cost between $150 and $200 million, would take about two years to finish. In 2011, the track was repaved for about $10 million and underwent some infrastructure upgrades as a precursor to a more extensive renovation, the Republic reports. ISC chairwoman Lesa France Kennedy told azcentral sports several years ago that PIR "would be a 'priority' " after upgrades at ISC's Daytona International Speedway, which completed a $400 million upgrade last year.
The fall race at Phoenix is not expected to sell out the grandstands for the first time in several years.
