TV Ratings: Rain again dampens Sprint Cup viewership

A relatively quiet weekend in motorsports was still hampered by the bad weather in Texas.

Sunday's rain-delayed, rain-shortened

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas

earned a 1.1 national rating, with 1.8 million viewers tuning in to NBCSN when the race got underway. The race, which was supposed air on NBC, then had to compete with the "Sunday Night Football" AFC West matchup between the Raiders and the Broncos that had an 11.7 overnight rating, according to Sports Media Watch. The numbers are tough to compare to last year's race, which drew 4.55 million viewers and a 2.71 rating during the afternoon event that aired on NBC.

According to Sports Media Watch, this weekend would mark the sixth Sprint Cup race of the season to post a rating of 1.6 or lower compared to one such race over the previous eight seasons combined.

The good news is there's a zero percent chance of rain in the forecast for this weekend's race at Phoenix.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race drew a 0.93 rating with 1.37 million people tuning in. Last year's race on NBC drew a 1.45 with 2.2 million viewers.
