F4: Schumacher misses out on Italian title

Mick Schumacher missed out on claiming the Italian F4 championship at the Monza season finale after sustaining damage in race two.

The son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael, Schumacher headed into the weekend with a 25-point deficit to Argentinian Marcos Siebert.

17-year-old Schumacher got off to the best possible start by dominating race one from third on the grid, although Siebert minimized the damage by charging from 11th to second, which eliminated third-place finisher Raul Guzman from title contention.

Schumacher then sustained damage in race two while battling for the lead with polesitter Sebastian Fernandez and Prema teammate Juri Vips at the Roggia chicane, which earned him a black-and-orange flag.

The German could only finish 27th after paying a visit to the pits to replace the nose, while Siebert's fifth place gave the Jenzer Motorsport driver the title with a race to spare.

Schumacher, who also

lost out on the ADAC F4 title

earlier this month to Australian Joey Mawson, recovered from the back of the grid to finish second in an incident-filled finale to confirm second in the standings, while Siebert was eliminated in contact with Diego Bertonelli.
