F3: Colton Herta dominates in Jerez

Carlin Racing's Colton Herta drove to another dominant win in the first EuroFormula Open race of the weekend in Jerez on Saturday, leading flag to flag for his third victory of the season.

Herta swept the pole, fastest lap of the race by more than three tenths of a second and the win. He built a two-second gap by lap 4, which he stretched to 7.5 seconds by the time he took the checkered flag.

"It all came together just like it did at Red Bull Ring," said Herta, who swept both Austria races in September. "The car has been amazing so far this weekend and we have managed to put it all together to get a great result. We need to follow this up tomorrow with pole position and the double win. We need to keep pushing, as we know others will be pushing to catch us – so we need to keep moving forwards and pushing for an even bigger gap."

Herta, the 16-year-old son of former IndyCar driver and current team owner Bryan Herta, is racing in the Euroformula series this year because the BRDC British F3 series he had planned to run full-time for Carlin ruled him too young to compete for its season opener.
