IMSA: Park Place leaning toward return

Patrick Lindsey isn't ready to say whether his Park Place Motorsports team will return to IMSA's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series, but the owner of the Porsche-affiliated program is leaning toward another run in the GT Daytona category.

"Park Place is evaluating our options for next year, and it could look similar to what we've done recently," Lindsey told RACER.

Lindsey shared the No. 73 Porsche 911 GT3 R with full-time teammate Jorg Bergmeister in 2016 where the Park Place car was one of four Porsche entrants to complete most or all of the 11 GTD rounds. Joined by Matt McMurry for the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup events, Park Place found success on the streets of Detroit's Belle Isle and at the sprawling Road America circuit where Lindsey and Bergmeister earned a pair of second-place finishes.

After skipping the all-GT round at VIR, the No. 73 took fifth at Circuit of The Americas and was quick at the Petit Le Mans season finale, but the entry was demoted to 12th in class after a minimum drive time infraction was applied.

At present, and

with both of Alex Job Racing's 911 GT3 Rs less than solid for 2017

, the Park Place Porsche and the incoming CORE autosport 911 GT3 R could be the only two full-season representatives for the German marque. Coming off a year where Porsche's new GT3 car scored one win and struggled to match the other marques at many tracks, Lindsey believes having a tighter concentration of Porsche entries could be a good thing.

"It behooves any team to find itself in a smaller group of programs attached to a manufacturer," he said. "The more a brand like Porsche can concentrate its success on just a few cars instead of half the [GTD] grid, it's always going to be better for those teams."

A decision on Park Place's return to IMSA is expected in the weeks ahead.
