MOTOGP: Redding slams 'idiot' teammate Petrucci

A furious Scott Redding says he has "lost respect" for Danilo Petrucci as a rider, after being hit by his Pramac Ducati MotoGP teammate on the first lap of the Aragon Grand Prix.

Having started 10th, Redding was hit by Petrucci at Turn 12 and crashed after being forced wide. He was able to get back on the bike well behind the pack to finish a distant 19th and last, two places behind Petrucci who was handed a ride-through penalty for the contact.

"I'm just disappointed really, because being teammates, normally I would give a 10% margin more, but it wasn't the first time in the first lap," Redding said. "He already had me in Turn 7 when we were together, so I knew he was going to come strong. I held out a long time into Turn 12, and then when I got to full angle, boom.

"I'm pissed off with the fact that my own teammate took me down – sometimes you can say it's racing but it's also not the first time that he's done it this year.

"I'm just pissed off with him; first thing, he didn't even come to apologize to me, second of all we're teammates. For the team it's a s**t atmosphere, because I've lost respect for him as a rider.

"I always said he was a good guy, which he is, but sometimes he doesn't have a f**king brain and that's something that if it happens again, I won't give him that 10%. If he wants to do it to me, I'll do it to him."

Petrucci said his "bike didn't stop" on the way into Turn 12, but Redding noted that that it's not his first incident in recent races.

"It's not the first time that he's taken someone out, or someone's complained about him overtaking," he said. "He seems to make his move very late, very deep, which is kind of unfair. When you saw [Petrucci's crash with Eugene] Laverty at the Red Bull Ring, again it was completely impossible, it's the same s**t here.

"For me, racing should be close, you can have contact, but taking someone down, that's more than contact. You know the BS about engine braking problems,' of course he's going to say that, he's not going to say, 'OK, I made a mistake.'

"I'm pissed off and, yeah, he got a penalty but that's two penalties in five races. That's kind of saying something."

Petrucci, who later had electronics problems, said it was his intention to apologize to Redding.

"He was really angry and he's right, because I ruined his race," he said. "I don't think we touched very hard but he went wide and then he goes after the curb and lost the bike. It was not a crash of my fault, but it was my fault that he went wide.

"For sure if I didn't go inside him, he doesn't crash. I'm really sorry for him."
