INDYCAR: Hawksworth focused on strong finish
With one race left on his contract with AJ Foyt Racing, Jack Hawksworth is determined to make something positive happen in what could be his final IndyCar outing this weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
At a time when his story arc should be trending upward, the Briton has weathered a hellish season and sits last among the full-time drivers in the championship. Three years into his IndyCar career, Hawksworth should be in a position to choose between seats at Andretti, Ganassi or Penske, but there are serious questions as to whether Sunday will mark the end of the open-wheel road for the 2012 Pro Mazda champion.
"I don't know anything regarding what I'm doing next year," the determined 25-year-old told RACER. "At this moment in time, we'll have to wait and see what plays out after the Sonoma race."
Hawksworth (pictured) isn't the only Foyt driver mired in a season to forget. Teammate Takuma Sato is 18th in the standings, two spots ahead of Hawksworth, and is on pace to record one of his worst years since joining the IndyCar Series in 2010.

to replace one or more of its current drivers, and while Sato's future in the series could be more secure due to his longstanding ties with Honda, Hawksworth might not be as fortunate. If his IndyCar journey comes to an end this weekend, at least in the short term, Hawksworth could find work in IMSA's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Rumors of a drive with the F Performance Racing Lexus RC F program in the GT Daytona class have made the rounds, and while Hawksworth wasn't inclined to speak on the topic, he did say he's open to quality drives in any professional series.
"For me, it doesn't come down to the series or anything like that; it doesn't matter where it is, as long as it's a competitive program," he added. "Wherever that is next year, that's where I'll be."
Hawksworth also reiterated his commitment to representing the ABC Supply-sponsored Foyt team to his full capabilities in Sonoma.
"My number one focus is doing as well as I can for my team this weekend," he said. "That's all that matters to me right now."
