F1: Sauber signs ex-Haas and Ferrari strategist

The Sauber Formula 1 team has appointed former Ferrari and Haas strategist Ruth Buscombe as part of its ongoing recruitment drive.

The 26-year-old, who left Haas in June after an eight-month stint with the American newcomer, will start work with Sauber at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Buscombe worked as a simulations development engineer at Ferrari before taking on the role of race strategist, based at the factory. She joined Haas last November ahead of its F1 debut, performing the same role but based at the track and on the pitwall during sessions.

Haas made a strong start to the season, finishing sixth on debut in Australia through Romain Grosjean with the Frenchman taking fifth at the next race. Buscombe moved back to the factory mid-season and then left Haas in June before accepting the role of race strategist at Sauber.

The move comes after Sauber appointed Max Verstappen's ex-engineer Xevi Pujolar as head of track engineering and Nicolas Hennel de Beaupreau as its new head of aerodynamics.

The Swiss team is bolstering its staff after its future was assured when new investors came on board in July.

It is currently in discussions to fill the role of technical director, which was vacated by Mark Smith on the eve of the season.
