F3: Colton Herta takes two EuroFormula Open wins

America's Colton Herta added to his diverse racing portfolio by sweeping both Euroformula Open series races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, his first wins in the series featuring Dallara F3 cars. He is the first driver to pull off such a weekend sweep yet this year.

The 16-year-old son of IndyCar's Bryan Herta avoided a chaotic start in his Carlin entry to take the win by 12.2 seconds ahead of Ferdinand Habsburg and Tatiana Calderon (RP Motorsport) in Race 1, then backed that up by dominating the second race of the weekend from pole position.

“The first driver to win both races over the course of the weekend feels pretty good; it’s really cool to get that this weekend," Herta said. Today the start was our only worry, we knew we had to lead going in to the first corner after that we knew we had the pace and that our tire management was good. From there it was just a case of pulling the gap.

"I’m really pleased that we made the most of the weekend, I’m proud of the team and it’s great to stand here with a double win. Our approach now for the rest of the season doesn’t change – we continue what we’re doing.”

Herta is racing in the Euroformula series this year because the BRDC British F3 series that he had planned to run full-time for Carlin ruled him too young to compete for its season opener.
