IHRA sponsor profile: JR Race Car
It isn't in a city that you'd expect to host one of the top motor racing suppliers – Greely, Colorado is about 50 miles northwest of Denver, named for newspaper editor Horace Greely, who, when asked where the best opportunities lay for up-and-comers, famously replied, "Go west, young man!"
Greely has certainly been proven the land of opportunity for JR Race Car, an official IHRA partner, particularly the JR Race Car IHRA Junior Dragster program, designed to allow racers between the ages of 7 and 17 the opportunity to race against their peers in near-replica models of the cars that the pros drive.
They compete at the local track level and selected divisional events as well as at the Summit Team Finals and at individual Junior-only JR Race Car Team Finals events. These events are contested on an eighth-mile format on an E.T. dial, your own format or a pre-set index on a heads-up breakout basis.
In 2014, JR Race Car was named the Official Junior Dragster of IHRA Motorsports. That same year, JR Race Car partnered with the IHRA in the complete design and build of the Summit SuperSeries Junior Dragster, awarded to the winner of the Junior Dragster class at the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals in Memphis, Tenn.
The company was a groundbreaker in the development of the Junior Dragster class, beginning in 1992. JR Race Car initially offered components such as turnkey Junior Dragster chassis, engines, clutches and chassis components, manufactured in-house from the beginning.
With nearly 25 years of experience in Junior Drag Racing, JR Race Car has led the way in class manufacturing, from initially machining many of the CNC parts for other vendors in the market, to designing and machining its own ZR, Titan, and ZR-4 Engines, and revolutionizing the market with the Shockwave and Shockwave OD CVT (centrifugally variable transmission) clutches and the innovative Hercules chassis.
JR Race Car is currently the manufacturer of the Hercules chassis as well as Shockwave clutches. As an engine builder, JR Race Car has made the ZR, and ZR-4 and Titan Engines, with roller lifter technology. The company is the leading source for class cars and components, regardless if you race in the 12.90, 8.90 or 7.90 brackets.
