INDYCAR: Series return for Walker?

Derrick Walker is headed England for the Goodwood Revival next month because it's honoring the Brabham team that gave him his start some 50 years ago.

But when he gets back, the long-time IndyCar owner and former IndyCar competition boss is looking to get back into the series he misses and still cares about.

"I have an offer to buy my building but I don't want to get out of racing if there's any way to stay involved," he said Wednesday after it was announced

he'd resigned as president

of the Sports Car Club of America Pro Racing. "Ideally, maybe do some consulting work or help a team because I think I've still got something I can add.

"And I'm not opposed to bringing back Walker Racing but, obviously, that requires finding the money, which is not any easier."

Walker enjoyed his time at SCCA Pro Racing ("I really enjoyed being involved in the start-up of that US F4 series and it's got a great deal of potential") but he's an IndyCar guy, and the Verizon series could certainly use more teams.

During his CART and Champ Car days as a team owner he won races with Robby Gordon, Gil de Ferran and Will Power – giving current IndyCar point leader Simon Pagenaud and Power their big break in America. He also campaigned a car for Sarah Fisher in the Indy Racing League.

Before taking the IndyCar job in 2014, Walker helped Ed Carpenter start his team and served as team manager.

At 71, the Scotsman figures the clock is ticking on his racing career.

"I figure I've got five years left with my marbles, although some may suggest that's a stretch, and then it's probably going to be all downhill so I better make the most of it," he said with a laugh. "Walker Racing has been around for 25 years and it would be great to get back into the IndyCar wars. IndyCar will always be my main passion.

"It's the best racing on the planet and I'd like to be part of it again, especially with those aero kits."
