F1: Ecclestone mother-in-law freed
The kidnapping case in Brazil involving Bernie Ecclestone's mother-in-law ended happily on Monday with the release of Aparecida Schunck, according to local police.
Schunck, 67 – the mother of Fabiana Flosi (pictured, with Ecclestone), wife of F1's chief executive – was freed unharmed without any ransom being paid, police said. She had been abducted from her Sao Paulo home on July 22.
A spokesperson for the Sao Paulo police told Britain's BBC that "a major police operation to free the victim" was undertaken after her location was traced to a house near Sao Paulo by investigators, who had been monitoring phone calls between the kidnappers and her family. Two suspects were arrested at the scene.
Schunck, who reportedly was tied up but otherwise unharmed, told Brazilian media: "I only ask for these bandits to be jailed so they can't abduct anyone else in Sao Paulo."
