Matt McMurray and Johnny Mowlem will pilot the No. 20 Gas Monkey / Southwest Funding PC for BAR 1 Motorsports this weekend at the famed Lime Rock Park circuit in Lakeville, Connecticut. The IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championships are in town featuring the Prototype Challenge cars along with the GTLM and GTD classes.

Arguably, Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park is one of the most significant historic road racing circuits in North America. Lime Rock is 1.50 miles of up hill and down dale, a track that looks deceivingly simple but is immensely challenging to drive quickly. For the IMSA WeatherTech cars, the ultimate challenge will be traffic. With 32 entries all scrambling for the same piece of real estate, patience will be a key ingredient in finishing the two hour and forty minute feature race.

“Johnny and Matt will have their work cut out for them,” said Brian Alder, BAR1 team owner. “The traffic at Lime Rock is notorious. It’s a quick 1.5 mile circuit and the GTLM and PC cars are going to be very close in lap times. With two hours and forty minutes, patience is very much a part of the team’s strategy. It is an absolute must.”

“That said,” continued Alder, “I have tremendous trust in both Johnny and Matt. These guys are pros… they know enough to preserve the car for the first few hours. They need to run clean up to that last stop… then make a run for the finish.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be showcased in a live three-hour show on Saturday, July 23, with the running of the IMSA WeatherTech Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. The two-hour, 40-minute race on the scenic circuit will showcase the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in its return to Lime Rock, joining the Prototype Challenge (PC) and GT Daytona (GTD) competitors.
