IMSA: Starworks leads FP1 at Lime Rock

IMSA's visit to Lime Rock Park with three of its four classes was met with sweltering heat on Friday morning, and at the end of the one-hour opening session, Renger van der Zande was fastest overall in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport PC. GTD saw Audi's mid-season pace continue as the No. 44 Magnus Racing R8 LMS GT3 turned a 52.807 with Andy Lally at the controls. Turner Motorsport's No. 96 BMW M6 GT3, which won the most recent round in Canada, was second thanks to Jens Klingmann (-0.203) and Park Place Motorsports' Jorg Bergmeister made it three German marques in a row with the No. 73 Porsche 911 RSR GT3 (-0.334) in third.

The No. 100 BMW Team RLL M6 caused a 10-minute stoppage when John Edwards pulled off and stopped on track during the session, and Risi's Giancarlo Fisichella had an off, but those were the only bouts of drama worth noting. Rain is in the forecast later in the day and could arrive in time for qualifying.
