MOTOGP: Germany gets new contract, Sachsenring likely

Germany will continue to host MotoGP races until at least 2021, with negotiations for the Sachsenring to remain the venue "on the home straight."

Promoter Dorna has announced a fresh, five-year deal with local governing body ADAC to secure the nation's MotoGP future.

The contract is not at this stage attached to the Sachsenring, with negotiations on the venue ongoing.

"We are pleased that collaboration with our longstanding partners at ADAC has been extended for another five years," Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said.

"We and the ADAC will be making a joint announcement in the next few weeks concerning the venue for the German MotoGP round."

The Sachsenring has hosted the German GP since 1998, and between 1934-39 when a road race in the nearby village of Hohenstein-Ernstthal.

It also hosted the East German GP from 1958-71.

While several riders questioned the circuit's safety following a spate of Turn 11 crashes on Friday, ADAC's Hermann Tomczyk indicated the Sachsenring remained the most likely venue.

"We are already on the home straight in our negotiations with the Sachsenring to serve as the venue for the next five years," he said.

"We hope to get the thumbs-up from our partners in Saxony by mid-August at the latest."
