NASCAR: Lupton, 22, to make Sprint Cup debut
Dylan Lupton couldn't ask for a better set of circumstances for his Sprint Cup debut this weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
The 22-year-old is a native of California and an accomplished road course racer, leading Lupton and crew chief Mike Ford to believe they could turn some heads on Sunday for BK Racing in the No. 93 Toyota.
"This whole thing started to come together in the spring at Las Vegas when I was trying to figure out our future," Lupton told RACER on Monday. "Mike and I were kicking some ideas around and thought it would be smart to reach out to (BK owner) Ron Devine and things got really serious around Talladega.

"I've had a lot of success on road courses so everyone agreed that Sonoma would be a great place to make our debut."
Lupton is a graduate of the NASCAR Next program and finished second in the 2014 K&N Pro Series West championship standings. He ran a partial Xfinity schedule for Athenian Motorsports last year with a best finish of ninth on the Mid-Ohio road course.
He has two K&N starts at Sonoma with finishes of eighth and third, leading him to believe he's equipped to be competitive there with BKR.
"They've got some old (Michael Waltrip Racing) road course cars and I think they're going to be pretty fast," Lupton said. "At first we were talking about doing up to 10 races but I think we both just want to get through this weekend and see how everyone feels about it."
As for making his debut just a few hours away from home, Lupton says he's focused on the job ahead but knows the emotions will hit on Sunday before the race.
"Right now, I just want to do everything I can for my sponsors and the team, but it's cool to know that I'll have all my friends and family there," Lupton said. "It's going to be a special moment for sure."
