Le Mans GTE Pro Porsche Contingent Led By WeatherTech Championship Regulars

Porsche Motorsport’s two-car entry in the LM GTE Pro class is very familiar to WeatherTech Championship fans. Defending GT Le Mans (GTLM) class champion Patrick Pilet will co-drive the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR with Nick Tandy and Kevin Estre. Pilet and Tandy co-drive the No. 911 Porsche in IMSA, and were joined by Estre at Daytona and Sebring this year.

“Le Mans is, of course, the greatest race for me,” Pilet said. “I’m French, after all. To win this race is one of the greatest goals of my career. The 250,000 fans who come to Le Mans every year add to the fantastic atmosphere. The track is terrific, very fast and very demanding. For us drivers, Le Mans represents a long and exhausting week with many assignments and appointments. With so many distractions it’s not always easy to concentrate on the essentials. That’s why we can’t wait for the race to start.”

Porsche’s No. 92 entry also features a regular WeatherTech Championship lineup, with Earl Bamber and Frederic Makowiecki from the No. 912 Porsche co-driving with Joerg Bergmeister, who is a regular for Park Place Motorsports in GTD.Last year, Tandy and Bamber scored the overall victory at Le Mans in a Porsche LM P1 Prototype, but return in the lead GT class this year.

“It was a great feeling to come back to Le Mans a year after our win,” said Bamber following the recent test day, with the two Porsches ranked second and third fastest in the class. “I’ve never driven a GT car here and hence I felt a little bit like a rookie at first.”

“We’re not going for overall victory this year, but we can win our class,” added Tandy. “That’s my goal. There are not many drivers, possibly even none at all, who have won two different classes in succession at Le Mans.”
