NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and 1995 World of Outlaws champion Dave Blaney was released from the hospital Friday night after a qualifying accident during a WoO event at Eldora Speedway.

Blaney was on his second qualifying lap when he made hard contact with the wall between Turns 1 and 2 and flipped several times. He was extricated from the car by the track safety crew and transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

A CT scan revealed no breaks or fractures. Blaney was "sore but was able to sit up," his team, Motter Motorsports, said on its website. The team later confirmed he had been released from the hospital.

"I know Dave joins in thanking all the fans, friends, and media for the tremendous outpouring of love tonight," team owner Dan Motter said in a statement. "It was a scary crash. We want to thank the track safety crew for taking care to extricate him from the car. We are very grateful to all."

Blaney, an Ohio native and father of Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney, had competed for Motter Motorsports several times this season, winning at Volusia Speedway in Florida in February and running in April races at Williams Grove, Port Royal and Selinsgrove, all in Pennsylvania.

He ran his first Sprint Cup race in Rockingham at the 1992 AC Delco 500 and raced in at least five races every year from 1999 until 2014. He has 71 World of Outlaws feature victories.

This story has been updated since initial publication to include Blaney's release from the hospital.
