MOTOGP: Le Mans extends French deal

MotoGP will continue to visit Le Mans for its French Grand Prix until at least 2021.

Le Mans was the venue for the very first French GP in 1920 and after the Bugatti circuit was built within the layout of the primary circuit – used for the Le Mans 24 Hours, in 1965 – hosted the race on 11 occasions over the next 30 years.

Spanish rider Alberto Puig's accident in 1995 prompted a major safety overhaul, and a move back to Paul Ricard for the race.

The championship returned to Le Mans in 2000, and MotoGP organizers and circuit officials have agreed to a fresh contract extension securing its place on the calendar until 2021.

Andrea Iannone topped Saturday morning's third practice session ahead of the 2016 event.
