INDY LIGHTS: Kaiser dominates in Phoenix
Kyle Kaiser continued his ascension up the Mazda Road to Indy ladder on Saturday with a dominant drive at Phoenix International Raceway.
The 20-year-old Californian started on the pole and led all 90 laps to earn his first Indy Lights' victory, following a pair of podiums at St. Petersburg.
"I didn't want to push too hard too early and wear out the tires, but I was able to open gap at the start and keep it," said Kaiser, who beat Dubai-based Brit Ed Jones to the checkered flag by 1.0s and R.C. Enerson by 1.2 seconds in his Juncos Racing Dallara/Mazda. "I learned a lot last year and I feel like this is my proving year."
Jones, who started second, bounced back from a miserable weekend in Florida to take the runner-up spot for Carlin Racing.
"Kyle got a good jump and then I managed to close the gap but the aero made it difficult to close and my car started getting pretty loose so I had to back off and take second," said Jones.
Enerson started fourth, while the drive of the race went to Zach Veach, who charged from 16th to eighth.
