IMSA: Action Express Corvettes lead Sebring FP1

Action Express Racing has continued its race-winning pace from last year’s 12 Hours of Sebring with a 1-2 with its Corvette DPs in the first practice session for the 2016 event.

Dane Cameron topped the 49-car field in his No. 31 AXR entry (1:52.477), placing a significant 0.779-second gap between his Corvette DP and the sister No. 5 AXR car driven by Scott Pruett (1:53.226). Michael Shank Racing’s Ozz Negri was third in Prototype with his No. 60 Ligier JS P2-hona (1:54.972), a full 2.525 seconds behind Cameron.

GT Le Mans saw Dirk Werner go fastest in his BMW Team RLL No. 25 BMW M6 (1:59.327), leading the factory Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSRs of Fred Makowiecki (1:59.633) in the No. 912 and Kevin Estre in the No. 911 (1:59.642).

In the Pro-am classes, Colin Braun’s No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA FLM09-chevy PC (1:55.469) was well clear of David Heinemeier Hansson in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsports PC (1:56.329), and in GT Daytona, Jeroen Bleekemolen led the category in his No. 33 Riley Motorsports Dodge Viper (2:02.901), edging Andy Lally in the No. 44 Magnus Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 (2:02.911).

Temperatures nearing 90 degrees and high humidity is expected later today when FP2 gets under way at 2:25 p.m. The final session of the day (7:30-9 p.m.) will offer teams one chance to prepare for the latter states of the race which runs in darkness.
