IMSA: Series releases Sebring BoP tables
Vehicles in three of IMSA’s four Weather Tech SportsCar Championship classes have received Balance of Performance changes ahead of next week’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring event.
49 cars entered for Sebring 12 Hours
Following the season-opening race in Daytona where P2 cars in the Prototype category used low-drag Le Mans bodywork, all Prototype entries will move to standard high-downforce bodies for Sebring onward.
The DeltaWing DWC13 had weight added for the recent Sebring test, and will race with a 10 kg weight reduction (22 pounds), the same it had at Daytona, and its turbocharged four-cylinder engine has seen most of its boost returned after a reduction was tried by IMSA at the test. The Daytona-winning Ligier JS P2-Honda package has lost boost in the middle and the top of its rpm range. The ORECA 05-Nissan has lost airflow to its V8 engine after the test as the opening for its air restrictor has shrunk by 2.3 mm.
In GT Le Mans, sweeping changes to fuel capacities serve as the most common alteration. Other than the Ford GTs receiving a slight boost increase toward the top of their rpm range, the Sebring changes to tank size affect every model. BMW’s M6 (-1 liter to 103 liters), Corvette’s C7.R (-5L to 87L), Ferrari’s 488 GTE (+1L to 79L), Ford’s GT (-3L to 90L), and Porsche’s 911 RSR (+1L to 92L) have been modified.
A similar trend is also found in GT Daytona. Other than the previous generation Audi R8 LMS, which loses a bit of power from a reduction in its air restrictor (1.7 mm smaller openings), the rest of the changes involve fuel capacity.
The Aston Martin V12 Vantage (+5L to 108L, +0.5 mm on its refueling flow restrictor), BMW M6 GT3 (+1L to 105L), Ferrari F458 (-4L to 90L, -2 mm on its refueling flow restrictor), and Porsche’s 911 GT3R (+4L to 88L) have received adjustments.
