WEC: Jakes returns to Manor for sportscars

James Jakes will switch from IndyCar racing to rejoin Manor for an attack on the World Endurance Championship this season. The 28-year-old Briton, who raced for Manor Motorsport in Formula 3 and GP3 in 2007 and 2010, respectively, will line up with fellow Manor alumni Will Stevens and Tor Graves aboard its ORECA-Nissan 05 in the LMP2 class.

"It is great to welcome James back to Manor and good to pick up where we left off following successful seasons in both F3 and GP3," Manor boss John Booth said. "I've had some good results with James in the past and hope to carry this into the WEC."

Jakes, who had a best result of a third place during his four years in IndyCars, said that he "couldn't have been happier" to be working together with Booth again.

"I'm very excited to have the chance to go endurance racing competitively on some of the greatest tracks in the world," he added. "I have every faith that we will be fighting for some good finishes this season."

The WEC program marks a return to competition for Manor Motorsport, which no longer has any connection with the Manor Racing Formula 1 squad, after a year's hiatus.
