Mardenborough returns to F3
Nissan protege Jann Mardenborough is to return to Formula 3 this season as part of an extensive program in Japan.
The 24-year-old Welshman, who finished sixth in the British F3 Championship in 2013, will line up in the All-Japan F3 series with B-Max, which has long run Nissan's young drivers. He will combine this with a program in Japan's Super GT series, where he will share the NDDP Racing Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in the secondary GT300 class with Kazuki Hoshino.
Mardenborough's switch to Japan comes after two seasons in the GP3 Series, during which he took one race win. He will team up with reigning Blancpain Endurance Series champion Katsumasa Chiyo, who himself is making a return to F3 alongside his promotion to Nissan's GT500 line-up in the Super GT series.
Which engines they will use is currently unclear, as B-Max tested Volkswagen powerplants at Suzuka in December. With Nissan not having an F3 engine to the category's current rules, B-Max has used Toyota power in recent seasons.
An entry by VW would be the first for a non-Japanese engine since the country adopted the new FIA rules in 2013.
