MOTOGP: Petrucci says he won't miss opener despite surgery

Pramac Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci has set his sights on competing in the MotoGP season opener in Qatar, following successful surgery on his broken hand.

Petrucci was one of 11 riders to fall during the final day of last week's test at Phillip Island, but the only one to suffer a serious injury. Having fractured the second, third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand, he will miss the final pre-season test in Qatar at the very least.

The 25-year-old underwent a three-hour operation in Melbourne on Monday – after swelling went down – and will return to his native Italy later this week, intent on not missing the first race of the year on March 20.

"You can see me, the world and my new bionic hand in Qatar. I said it," he posted with a photo of his post-surgery hand and x-ray on social media.

Pramac has not provided any indication on plans to replace Petrucci for the Qatar test, or a back-up for the race.
