ROLEX 24: “I’m adding an air horn for next year’s race” - Lindsey

The worlds of comedy and motor racing intersected last weekend during the Rolex 24 At Daytona when Patrick Lindsey completed the slowest lap in the race's history as he slowly nursed his stricken Porsche back to the garage through the infield.

Stuck behind oblivious motorists, and without the benefit of a horn to press on the steering wheel of his Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, Lindsey's painful journey was caught on camera by FOX (watch video below) and became an instant social media hit.

With a few days to soak in the notoriety, the race-winning Californian says he doesn't mind a Daytona traffic jam being the reason for his name reaching a wider audience.

"I'm one that believes all press is good press, and if it's from me getting stuck behind cars trying to get the car back to my mechanics, it's not a bad thing," Lindsey told RACER. "This sport doesn't get a lot of attention, so anything helps, and the truth is, I knew exactly where I was going. I just didn't have a way to get the attention of the drivers in front of me."

The echoing sounds of dozens of racecars circulating the Daytona track drowned out Lindsey's Porsche; revving the engine would not have made a difference. Despite spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a brand-new Porsche 911 GT3 R, the German brand does not offer a horn as optional equipment, but Lindsey has plans to address the issue.

"I'm adding an air horn for next year's race, for sure." he added with a laugh. "I don't know if it will pass [technical inspection], but I told my chief mechanic I want to take the car through tech with big trucker air horns mounted to the hood."

And what sound would Lindsey's horn play? "La Cucaracha...definitely La Cucaracha."

The Park Place team, which qualified first in GT Daytona, returned after repairs were made to finish 18th in class.
