F3: Lorandi joins Tveter at Carlin

Italian Alessio Lorandi is the second driver on board at Carlin for this year's Formula 3 European Championship. Lorandi joins America's Ryan Tveter, who remains at Carlin for a second season.

The 17-year-Lorandi old raced for Van Amersfoort Racing in F3 in 2015, his rookie season of car racing. He took a best result of sixth in Pau and impressed many with his drive to seventh in the Macau Grand Prix. Before then, Lorandi was one of the biggest stars of karting, where his father is team principal of the Baby Race team.

Lorandi makes the move after several tests with a Volkswagen-powered Carlin Dallara during November and December.

"In the small amount of testing we have completed with him, he's shown himself to be a very talented and intelligent driver," team boss Trevor Carlin said. "Our engineers have been extremely impressed with his level of feedback and technical knowledge, and already we have made some promising progress together. I have no doubt he will be a great asset to the team and we believe we have a great package to allow Alessio to reach his potential."

The team is also tipped to run Raoul Hyman, who had a strong test with Carlin at Valencia in December and has hinted strongly on social media this week that he will be back in F3 this season.
